The song on this video is pretty funny and I just had to share this with you. I heard it a few months ago on Adam Curry’s Podcast “The Daily Source Code.” I was going to post it then but forgot about it until the other day when a friend of mines wife emailed it to everyone.

The name of the artist is Rodney Carrington and the song is “Show Them To Me.” I don’t know a whole lot about the guy but I do know that his style predominantly country and he writes some damn funny songs.

Check it out and be sure you listen to the words closely because you will crack a smile.

Behold, another entertaining find for you in the wonderful world of music. Here’s a site that lists some of what they think are the worst covers song ever.

Not sure why “Layla” made the list but Olivia Newton-John doing the Johnny Cash classic “Ring of Fire” certainly belongs.

For the record I would like to add a song by the late 80′s Glam metal band Faster Pussycat doing a cover of Carly Simon’s “Your So Vain.” What the hell where they thinking?

You can never have enough information when it comes to making your good times feel better the next day. That is why I am passing on this little article offering up hangover preventions and remedies.

It received quite a few votes on Digg the other day so there must be something to it. However, I not so sure any of them are quite as foolproof as my 4 simple steps to avoid a hangover. Cheers!

My Two Cents on Live Earth

Is it just me or is there something addictive about these festivals? I was tied to the TV yesterday for a good portion of the morning and much of the evening checking out the Live Earth coverage. When I wasn’t watching I was thinking about it.

I was able to see a ton of different artists which is always cool. Here are some of the thoughts I had as I watched them perform.

Cool to see Roger Waters doing some vintage Floyd. The floating pig was a nice touch.

I found myself tapping my toe to Duran Duran. I feel a little dirty about this considering how much I disliked them in my youth.

I wonder if the guitar player for Linkin Park is bored to death.

Watched Metallica perform my least favorite songs by them.

I just know I heard a steel guitar during one of the Bon Jovi tunes. Does that make them country now? If I were to look for their music would I look in the country section? Just curious.

I didn’t realize that Macy Gray was so outspoken.

Like her or not there is something cool about Madonna playing a Les Paul dressed like Lucille Ball (my wife pointed that out). Even cooler is the fact that she was actually playing it. She’s a pro.

I could go on all day but I will stop. I just wanted to get out a post on Live Earth. Just didn’t feel right to not say anything, especially considering that I this is a music site.

Oh, and one last thing. I think that it is great that all of these bands hooked up to promote this worthy cause, it is way overdue, but there is something that just doesn’t sit right with me when I listen to these mega popular artists preach to me between songs. I’m not questioning their motives, it just doesn’t feel right. Here is an article I found where one of the Pet Shop Boys weighs in on Live Earth. He gives us a little food for thought next time we are watching a similar event.

Sometimes polls are kind of fun and even insightful. Recently, The Sun reported on a poll about the most annoying songs.

I find it very hard to disagree with a few of the songs on this list. The James Blunt song certainly grinds on me. I think it is something with that voice

La Macarena could actually be higher in my opinion. I was around throughout the 90′s and I was a DJ that had to play the song frequently for drunken college co-eds. It was everywhere and it was endless.

Anyway, that’s my two cents. Are there any other songs you think are be missing from the list?

Did you see my last post with a video of Eddie VanHalen in his home studio? Well Keith Dick over at LifeTimeGamer did and this is what he had to say;

I think he needs a few more cigarettes stuck under the strings on the headstock.. hehe…Nice find keep â€˜em comingâ€¦

I too appreciate the trade mark cigarette on the headstock and since Keith wants more, he gets it. Here’s a video I found of Eddie putting on some sort of exhibition. This isn’t one of his best performances but he has the cigarette and, what I think is, one hell of a buzz.

5 Songs That Should Be Banned From Classic Rock Radio

How many times can you hear a song that you like (or love) before you just can not stand it anymore because it is overplayed to death? Whether it is on the radio, on a jukebox, performed by a cover band or God forbid…karaoke. I have a few that I would like to share with you. Maybe it is just where I live.

1) “You Shook Me All Night Long” by AC/DC – It’s fucking everywhere. They have too many other good songs to play than to be pounding away on this one every day.

2) “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Would be much better in smaller doses.

3) “Sweet Emotion” by Aerosmith – Again, good band with a ton of other stuff to play.

4) “Crazy Train” Ozzy Osbourne – Great song, great guitarist. Let’s just put it away for awhile.

5) “Takin’ Care of Business” – BTO – Not sure if I ever need to hear this one again.

I am sure I missed some. I’m sure you have one or two you’d like to add to the list so don’t just sit there, put your hands on the keyboard and type something.

Did You Know Motley Crue Wants To Put Paris Hilton In Jail?

I came across this on Digg.com this morning and thought I would pass it along. Evidently Motley Crue have either a ton of time on there hands, a bone to pick with Paris Hilton or both. They have started a petition to counter a petition that is attempting to keep Paris Hilton out of jail for her drinking and driving.

Even though I agree with them that she should do her time, it is sort of odd that they would be so vocal on something like this. Other than their 20 years of balls to the wall partying and near death experiences, a wasted Vince Neil was driving a car that ended the life a guy named Razzle from the band Hanoi Rocks.

Is Steely Dan Wrecking Your Buzz?

Taking a trip to the grocery store to get a few movies turned out to be an enlightening experience. Turns out that Steely Dan and I do not see eye to eye when it comes to choice of fine liquor.

Imagine this. There I am rolling down the road, iPod on mix and on pops “Hey Nineteen.” It sounds great; thumping base, silky smooth groove and great harmonies (what else would would you expect from Steely Dan?). Next thing ya know I started to listen to the lyrics, “…the Cuervo gold …the fine co–lum-bian, …let’s make tonight a wonderful thing.” Nice but, one word jumped out at me; Cuervo.

No offense Cuervo enthusiasts, but what in the hell is so wonderful about including this rough-tasting Tequila in an otherwise promising evening? Haven’t they heard of Don Julio?

Think about it. Julio tastes so good that you don’t have to bother with salt and lime. You get to spend a little more time with the fine Columbian and A LOT more time to work on the nineteen year old.

Lets try this again, “…Don Julio …the fine co–lum-bian, …let’s make tonight a wonderful thing.” Ahhh…perfect.

Can You Name The Hair Band?

A few weeks back a friend of mine sent a “name the hair band” quiz to me. I tried it out and learned something interesting about myself. I figured I would pass the quiz on to you but before I do… you wanna hear something funny?

I had zero wrong.

Now I wasn’t completely surprised by my wizardry since my head was constantly buried in Hit Parader and Circus magazines back then but it does raise a question. What is wasted youth? I’m sure there are better ways to waste ones youth but this certainly ranks up there.

Anyway, good or not, this stuff is fun. I will just throw it in the guilty pleasures bin along with a the Loverboy and Kenny Rogers cd’s in the collection.

Before you laugh to hard you might want to give it a try.

4 Simple Steps to Avoid a Hangover

For the first official MusicGoat post I am going to discuss how it is that a semi responsible married guy with two kids can have a good time on the weekend and wake up the next day feeling 98% normal.

Based on 10 years of punishing research I have come to the conclusion that there are only 4 things you need to do;

1) Have decent meal. This may be the most critical step. Before going out you need to get something to soak up the beer and slow its effects. Indulging on an empty stomach is a fast track to toilet city and a screaming headache.

2) Drink the right beer. Back in 1997 I visited England with the local military outfit and made my first big breakthrough. During our leave we partied hard despite the pre-dawn wakeups and heavy day schedule. It was clear after lots of Newcastle Brown Ale, barely four hours of sleep, and a 3 mile run the next morning, there was something up with this English brew. Thank you England!

3) If your a smoker, smoke the right cigarettes. If there is such thing as a healthy cigarette than this brand represents.
