Modena Release Second Time Around Video

As four guys dressed in various levels of rocker attire, from the most basic jeans and T’s to the full-on lead guitarist rockstar wardrobe, walk into the studio they exchange the same familiar barbs and ribbing that they have for the last 5 years.
The jokes about each other’s style, equipment preferences, and state of facial hair upkeep are old. What is new is the status of signed band they acquired last year when signing with independent label Filament Records; their first professional music video for Second Time Around; and the songs they are currently to laying down with producer Jamie King. There is a nervous excitement about this event, the untested songs, and the band’s first experience with King, after dropping the 2010 Second Time Around demo produced by the revered Jim Wirt (Incubus, Hoobastank, Jack’s Mannequin, Live).
The band said the decision to go with King had a lot to do with the quality of music he is becoming known for regionally, the work he has done with their label mates Irvine, and with the ability to work around schedules by going with a local producer to complete the album.

“Our label (Filament Records) always supports us in our artistic decisions and never tries to interfere with our music, but Tony (Andrews, Filament CEO) strongly encouraged us to take a long look at Jamie King. We heard some of the music he was putting out and felt like he could add some diversity to the album while maintaining the high quality that we required to go along side the work Jim had done with us.”

“Jim is like a coach, a member of the band almost when you work with him. He pushes you hard toward being the best musician you can be, and getting the best take possible. He doesn’t like to splice together two half-decent takes to make it sound synthetically correct. He prefers that everyone play their parts how they are meant to be played, rather than use a computer to make you sound ‘good.’

Jamie has a different style than Jim which we respect as well. We knew going in that we had to push ourselves and he would give us back as much as we gave. All in all, it drew us closer as a band, having both experiences. It also gave us two different sounds, which we feel like our fans will really appreciate when they buy the CD. This album will have the kind of diversity that we want to hear on a CD we purchase.”A release date has not yet been set, but the label is more “Thrilled” than Michael Jackson with the preliminary rough mixes they are hearing coming out of the studio so far. Filament owner Tony Andrews continues to rave about the edge that King leaves on the songs and the pure rock sound that brings out.
Second Time Around
The Second Time Around video portrays Modena’s vision of the title track. Complete with smashed glass, beer bottles, and the tell tale text message on the iPhone left behind, it’s a story of breaking up in the new millennium.
Currently available on youtube it will soon be added to rotation on over 22 MusicDish TV stations and web programing.

Cool Ass Way To Make Music Videos For YouTube

Looking for a cool way to make music videos for YouTube without spending a ton of time or money? Check out this video.

I saw this video on my Google Plus stream and thought it was a great example of a simple video that keeps you watching.

It looks like something any one on a limited budget, very limited time or limited equipment could do.

Here it is -

What about you? Do you have any simple, cost effective ways to make videos?

A friend of mine sent me this video the other day and I thought I would pass it along. The band is Stereoside and the song is “On Our Way.”

The song pays tribute to some of the big artists through the past 3-4 decades. One of the cool things about this tune is, they aren’t really picky about genre – both in the music itself and the lyrics. The writer is obviously a Musicgoat (we like that here).

The song starts out with this country blues feel and ends in hard rock. One verse will mention Waylon and Willie and the next will mention something about Guns n’ Roses and Alice in Chains.

Another cool thing about this tune is, I can see it relating to a lot of people – especially those that I have grown up with (Hell, I almost wish I had written this tune myself).

And the opening is a nice touch which sets the table nicely. The vid opens with a mysterious hand pouring a strong one and some mysterious inhaling sounds (hmmmm…wonder what that could be?).

AND, the dude has a cool voice. Somehow I think he can pull off some solid G n’R covers.

Anyway, enough with the ands, check it out. Let me know what you think below.

In this time of crisis and turmoil, happiness is something that people all over the world want to feel and music plays a big part.  With an upbeat tempo, and beats that make you want to move and get up and dance, P.A. Teezy has the sound that makes you forget about your problems.

After discovering his talent at the age of 12, P.A. Teezy has steadily continued to develop and mature his sound into what is is today.  Already an underground Miami legend with the club smash “Do My Dance,” P.A. Teezy is now poised to take over the world.

C.G.’s Tips of the Week – Advice From The Certified Genius

How’s everyone doing? Good I hope. Happy new year everyone, here’s some new advice for the new year from your favorite producer.

Tips for life: Be thankful. The only thing guaranteed to us in life is death so I’ve come to realize that a lot of things that we take for granted like food, shelter, health and clothing really are blessings. If you look at any third world countries there are people starving to death and dying of malnutrition. Be grateful for what you do have and try not to focus on what you do not have.

Tips for producing/beat making: Diversify. Try new things musically. Don’t be afraid to go out of your element and make a pop or hip-hop beat. Even try some R&B or cross genre tracks. I used to strictly do more rugged and grimey east coast hip-hop. Over the past two years though I really worked on creating my own style and just doing my own thing musically and I have been getting a lot of great feedback. For an example, check out my new remix/cover song to G-Unit’s “Stunt 101″ here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFF1CsN4ZQU or here C.G. Productionz \”Stunt 101\” Remix/Cover Song (same link)

Tips for song writers/artists: Promote. However you want to do it is up to you but you need to promote yourself. Whether you want to use Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, etc. is your choice but you need to get your music out there. People need to know and hear what you’re doing. In most cases a label doesn’t sign artists that don’t already have somewhat of a fan base (not in all cases but generally speaking). Even if you don’t want to end up with a major label you still need to promote because independent artists need a fan base to. Once you have the music or the movement that catches people’s attention you’re halfway there; now you just need to keep their attention.

Tips for finance: Buy assets, not liabilities. Keep this in mind especially when you start making excess money or get a raise or nice bonus. Even if you’re an artist, producer or song writer. Don’t blow your big check on a brand new Benz or big mansion (liabilities: items that depreciate in value and don’t make you any money). Instead, buy some real estate or talk to a stock broker and invest in some stock (assets: items that can make you money, if done correctly). Before investing in anything or buying any real estate it’s very important to educate yourself and make sure you’re working reliable and professional people on your investments. There’s no sense in blowing a few thousand dollars on new designer clothing and then struggling when the money dries up. The truth is, you never know when you might be out of a job or when your music won’t be the center of attention anymore. For these reasons, I believe it’s very important to purchase assets rather than liabilities. I hope this advice helps to bring in the new year on a positive note for everyone and I wish everyone much love and success for 2011. Ending on that note, I’ll talk to you guys in another two weeks. Don’t forget to leave some comments and feedback too!

Thanks,

P.S. My second mixtape Payback: Certified Genius Volume 2 will be released on Monday, February 28th. Stay tuned for that, especially if you like the remix that I posted!

As some of you may or may not know that on top of running Musicgoat, I am also a musician myself. Last May I had an video idea for my tune “Minnesota Got Colder.” I figured that you guys might be interested in checking it out and maybe even providing some feedback.

My Idea

Since the song is about remembering and since Memorial Day was on its way, I shot out an email to everyone on my email list and on the official Corey Koehler Facebook Fanpage offering friends and fans the opportunity to take part in the process. I ask them to send in pictures of deceased loved ones that they would like to memorialize.

Along with a good response , I had the help of my sister, her video camera, her Mac and the gorgeous scenery surrounding where I live (Winona, MN).

Check It Out

It was our first shot at making a video but I think that my sister  and I did alright. What do you think?

Facebook Video?

If you are wondering why I embedded from Facebook its because it is a higher quality version than the one I posted on YouTube. We didn’t really know what we were doing at first and we had to convert it to a format suitable for YouTube. And since I was in a hurry – because I slacked a little early on and had to press to get it out before the end of Memorial Day – I didn’t pay attention to the obvious lack of quality (see for yourself on the YouTube version).

Anyway, hope you enjoy it. Oh, and I almost forgot (Duh! still getting used to this promotion thing lol), if you like the tune you can pick it up on my BandCamp page , iTunes, Amazon or CDbaby (i’m everywhere).

HEY! Let’s be friends! Hook up with me on my YouTube Channel, on my Facebook FanPage or on my official site, PlanetCorey.com.

Here’s a nice find for you. I met the lead singer David Whitton of the band Eggshell Egoz in Vegas a few weeks ago. He came off as a very cool, smart guy who isn’t afraid to work. Other than finding the time for writing, recording AND pimping his music to the masses, he is a family man, owns his own club and works at another (welcome to the world of the indie artist).

I just wanted to share some of his music with all of you because – not only is he’s a good guy and deserves to be heard – BUT his music is fucking good AND is about as Musicgoat friendly as it gets. The tunes throughout their “Funky Poetz” CD incorporate a variety of influences; funk, metal, pop and a few others things I can’t really pinpoint cuz I’m writing this at a point way past my bedtime.

Anyway, check out this laid back video for one of their newest tunes, “We Ain’t Saying Nothin” and then head over to EggshellEgoz.com, listen to more and pick up a CD.

Here are some artists that are doing something pretty damn cool. Watch Gary Jibilian (N/S Stick), Jay Setar (Drums) and Norton Wisdom (Interpretive Artists) as they perform/interpret a tune called “Anti-Gravity.”

I was in Vegas a few weeks ago for a music conference and I had the pleasure of meeting two of these three very cool guys in this video.

Just when you thought the flute was strictly for use in the symphony and Jethro Tull tunes, someone comes along and adds a little beatbox and a lot of flavor. Check out this video featuring a guy named Nathan “flutebox” Lee. Read the rest of this entry
