  • Your 13 Step Guide To Becoming a Beatles Fan

    Monday, July 14th, 2008

Guest post: Treadmarkz is my brother-in-law, a Human Beatles Encyclopedia and the author of the weblog Treadmarkz.wordpress.com.

I am sure you have heard all the hubbub, but maybe you never quite knew what it was all about, this thing, this MANIA called the Beatles. If you have been thinking of getting into the Beatles (and I mean really into the Beatles, not just buying their latest Greatest hits compilation) this is not the Beatles’ Top 12 Best Albums, and I am not reviewing each album. This is just the order you need to buy them in, in order to feel the full effect of what they did.

The chronological order in which they were originally released seems like the most sensible way to do it. But this isn’t sensible. If you get into the Beatles you have to be prepared for a little disjointedness and things that come out of left field. You don’t have to follow this guide exactly, and as you will see, I give you opportunities to make your own choice. Also, this is just the original Beatles Music we are talking about here, not Let It Be…Naked, or the Love Album. Having said that, I give you…The List: (more…)

Concert Review: Airbourne and Endeverafter Flat Out Rock

    Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

I just wanted to share a few quick thoughts with you concerning the Airbourne and EndeverafteR show I attended the other night at The Rock Night Club in Maplewood, MN.

The guys from EndeverafteR were polished and extremely entertaining. Throughout the show all I was thinking was “these guys get it.” Speaking as a child of the 80’s hard rock/metal scene, these guys could hang with the best of them. (more…)

MMP010 - Led Zeppelin in Heels

    Sunday, January 20th, 2008

Did you ever wonder what Led Zeppelin would sound like if they were fronted by a woman? Me neither. But - just for the hell of it - I put together a show featuring women that are covering a few of the great bands classics.

Oh and the website mentioned in this show is supposed to be the PodcastAnswerGuy.com (sorry Cliff). Not the two misspoken versions from the episode. Check him out if you are looking to get into podcasting.

Press play and see if the women can do Zeppelin justice.

Get New Paul McCartney Album “Memory Almost Full” for Free

    Friday, July 13th, 2007

I realize this is sort of old news but how cool is this? In another sign that the music industry is loosing ground, a major artist is using non-traditional means to distribute music. Mega-legend Paul McCartney has made his new album, “Memory Almost Full” available on the DRM free music download service eMusic.

What is even cooler is the fact that you can go there right now, sign up for free and take advantage of the 25 Free Downloads promotion to get the whole album for free.

Check it out and while there take a look around, there is a ton of great indie music available throughout the site.

5 Songs That Should Be Banned From Classic Rock Radio

    Thursday, June 7th, 2007

How many times can you hear a song that you like (or love) before you just can not stand it anymore because it is overplayed to death? Whether it is on the radio, on a jukebox, performed by a cover band or God forbid…karaoke. I have a few that I would like to share with you. Maybe it is just where I live.

    1) “You Shook Me All Night Long” by AC/DC - It’s fucking everywhere. They have too many other good songs to play than to be pounding away on this one every day.

    2) “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Would be much better in smaller doses.

    3) “Sweet Emotion” by Aerosmith - Again, good band with a ton of other stuff to play.

    4) “Crazy Train” Ozzy Osbourne - Great song, great guitarist. Let’s just put it away for awhile.

    5) “Takin’ Care of Business” - BTO - Not sure if I ever need to hear this one again.

I am sure I missed some. I’m sure you have one or two you’d like to add to the list so don’t just sit there, put your hands on the keyboard and type something.

Is Steely Dan Wrecking Your Buzz?

    Saturday, May 19th, 2007

Taking a trip to the grocery store to get a few movies turned out to be an enlightening experience. Turns out that Steely Dan and I do not see eye to eye when it comes to choice of fine liquor.

Imagine this. There I am rolling down the road, iPod on mix and on pops “Hey Nineteen.” It sounds great; thumping base, silky smooth groove and great harmonies (what else would would you expect from Steely Dan?). Next thing ya know I started to listen to the lyrics, “…the Cuervo gold …the fine co–lum-bian, …let’s make tonight a wonderful thing.” Nice but, one word jumped out at me; Cuervo.

No offense Cuervo enthusiasts, but what in the hell is so wonderful about including this rough-tasting Tequila in an otherwise promising evening? Haven’t they heard of Don Julio?

Think about it. Julio tastes so good that you don’t have to bother with salt and lime. You get to spend a little more time with the fine Columbian and A LOT more time to work on the nineteen year old.

Lets try this again, “…Don Julio …the fine co–lum-bian, …let’s make tonight a wonderful thing.” Ahhh…perfect.
