Ultimate Goal

When you complete this training you will understand yourself and your music “brand” better. You will also know how to identify the right fans and the right opportunities. Finally, you will develop the habit of identifying and finding fans and opportunities.

Here is a step by step action plan for this course. Each action step should take you 30 minutes or less to complete. Do at least one action step every day until you complete each one.

About this link: The link above will take you to a site called Alexa. They rank and compile demographic information for nearly every website online. Once you have a link to a website that you know your fan may frequent, copy and paste it into the enter a site box. You get a bunch of information about visitors to that site. Stuff like male to female ratio, education level, keywords they are ranking for, sites that are linking to this site (to help you find even more sites), and more. Use this information to both see how close you are and to find more data you might have missed.

Note: Since this train was created. Amazon bought them and they recently changed their format from always free to 7 trial. Still useful and you can get cancel before paying. Also check out Facebook Insights, Quantcast and SimilarWeb to get info on your audience.

About this link: When you come up with your “Band/Artist Identity Statement”, copy and paste it into the headline tester, select “Art & Entertainment” under category and hit submit.

Try to shoot for something higher than at least 30% to start. You can always improve on it and try different taglines in the future but this will get you started. You can refine as you learn more about your audience and what they respond to.

About this link: I read this after I had this course nearly complete and thought I should mention it. It is a short read. The concept is great and almost exactly what we are going for when identify our target audience. I made it extra, extra credit because it costs a few bucks and it is somewhat dense marketing stuff that is geared more towards business.
